Bill of materials and engineering (PLM)

Parts, assemblies and revisions under control

Industric organizes each project into a multi-level bill of materials (BoM): assemblies, subassemblies, parts and consumables, with their versions and drawings. Engineering changes are assessed before they reach the shop floor.

01The problem

A design change that never reaches the shop floor is expensive

When the bill of materials lives in spreadsheets and emails, a new revision can coexist with the old one and nobody knows which is current.

  1. Mixed revisions

A part is machined to the previous drawing revision because the change was never communicated.

  2. Changes with no calculated cost

An engineering change is approved without knowing how much it adds in hours, material and delay.

  3. A structure that is hard to follow

In a mold or machine with hundreds of parts, it is hard to know what is missing and which assembly it belongs to.

The tree shows what makes up the assembly and which revision each part is on. Change ECO-0007 blocks the affected orders until it is approved.

03How Industric solves it

Every feature, tied to a result

  • Multi-level BoM

A tree of parent assembly, subassemblies, parts (PRT) and consumables (MAT) to control what makes up each project.

  • BoM versions

Every engineering revision is versioned, so revisions never get mixed during production.

  • 3D viewer in the browser

Review 3D models (GLB/GLTF) inside the project record without installing CAD software.

  • PDF data sheets

Generate the tooling's technical dossier with an assembly summary, components, dimensions and photos.

  • Engineering change orders (ECO)

Every change request is tied to the project, assembly and part, with its impact on cost, hours, scrap and schedule calculated before approval.

  • Approval workflow

Draft, in review, approved and implemented (or rejected). Affected work orders stay blocked in the meantime.

04How an engineering change works

Assess the impact before releasing production

  1. Log the change request on the affected part or assembly.

  2. Review the impact: added cost, hours, scrap and days of delay in the schedule.

  3. Approve or reject the change. While it is decided, the affected work orders stay blocked.

  4. Implement: the new version of the BoM and drawing reaches the shop floor as the only current one.

05FAQ

About BoM and engineering changes

What is a multi-level BoM?

It is the bill of materials organized as a tree: the main assembly contains subassemblies, and those contain parts and consumables. It shows what depends on what.

Do I need CAD software to view the models?

No. Industric's 3D viewer opens GLB and GLTF models directly in the browser.

What is an ECO?

An engineering change order: the formal record of a design modification, with its justification, impact and approval.
